  7.      Here the jade carver,  
  8. with the dexterity of a 
  9. master magician, has 
  10. transformed a piece of 
  11. emerald green and white 
  12. jadeite ( fei-ts'ui ) into 
  13. a very real-looking Chinese 
  14. cabbage.  The ruffled, semi-
  15. translucent leaves almost
  16. rustle at the touch. Long, 
  17. white stalks overlap in a 
  18. kind of gentle rhythm, and
  19. the delicate combination of 
  20. pale blue-green mottles in 
  21. the opaque white jade is
  22. exquisite.  With a bit more 
  23. scrutiny even a large and 
  24. a small grasshopper will 
  25. appear camouflaged in the 
  26. leaves!
